Teen-time Chocolate Nut Bars

The next recipe was the “Teen-Time Chocolate Nut Bars” on page 13, in the “Cooky Primer” section of the cook book.

These are cake-y bars chockfull of chocolate chips and nuts.

These were a fairly basic bar batter — cream the butter and sugar, beat in the egg and add the flower, baking power, and baking soda. Finish off by mixing in the chocolate chips and coarsely chopped nuts. Put it all in a greased and floured pan and bake.

I made half a recipe — normally it would go in a 9×13″ pan, so mine may have been a little shorter than they should’ve been.

The bars were tasty enough, and my husband rather liked them (he’s my only taster now that we’re hunkering down as part of our physical distancing for the global pandemic). However, as with the Chocolate Chip Bars I made as the first recipe of this Cooky Book Project, these weren’t as good as chocolate chip cookies to me. They might be a little easier to make, but I’ve made chocolate chip cookies so much that I don’t see them as a big deal, and would rather have the cookies than these bars.

Bottom line: These were cake-like bars with a nice texture and loads of chocolate chips and nuts. They’re simple to make, but for me, I’d rather have chocolate chip cookies.
