Embarking on a journey

I’ve been a baker my entire life…at least as long as I can remember. And, for that entire time, Betty Crocker’s Cooky Book has been in my kitchen. Several of the holiday recipes my mom and I have made through the years come from this cook book including Russian teacakes, roll-out sugar cookies, and toffee bars.

However, when I page through the book, those are about the only cookies I have made from this book. I don’t think I’ve ever just sat down to pick another non-holiday recipe from the book. It seems like a lost opportunity! I’m going to try to rectify that…and perhaps go too far in the other direction.

This blog is a chronicle of my attempt to bake most of the recipes in my copy of the Cooky Book (the 1st edition, 4th printing). Please note that I will not be printing the recipes — those aren’t my recipes to share. Instead I’ll share the page number along with my impressions of the recipe, how easy it is to make, and how good it tastes.

I will be skipping the entire “Quick ‘N Easy” section, which are recipes that require prepackaged mixes. I don’t care to use cake mixes to make cookie recipes…plus there are several other mixes that I’m not sure are available anymore like “lemon fluff.”

I may skip some of the recipes that require specialized equipment that I don’t already own, like special irons and rolling pins.

I also don’t plan on making ever variant of the various recipes that are listed, just the base recipe.

That’s it. If this sounds like fun, please join me!
